All mutual rules and procedures are to be followed by each resident. Those rules, as well as mutual by-laws, were developed in deference to living in the Leisure World Community. The direct relationship is to the mutual, which in turn has a relationship to the community.
The mutual makes available to residents the amenities of Leisure World. Some amenities require a minimal user fee, but many are subsidized by your condo fee to the mutual. Along with amenities, services such as security are provided to the community. Many classes and lectures are offered by the Education and Recreation Department. In the community, many varying interests can be shared with others in the over one hundred resident-formed group and clubs for which membership dues are minimal. |

The community of Leisure World was established as a Trust in 1965. The different mutuals were incorporated and developed individually over time. Along with Mutual 18 on the north side of Leisure World, Mutual 16 was started in late 1977. At that time, many of the low-rise associations were in existence, but high-rises had yet to be built. Mutual 16 was one of the last low-rise mutuals built. Today, the building of any new mutual has ceased.
